10 years ago, Carlos Schreib formulated this vision of a versatile, urban vehicle for cleaning public spaces. The concept is as much a radically new archetype of agile street sweepers as it is a logical next step to modernize the cleaning process of an ever more important habitat – public urban spaces.

Wanting a cleaner city should not result in a more complex system of cleaning vehicles and personell but induce innovation in one of the most important service sectors for urban life.

The vision incorporates a seamless human-machine interaction that can be thought of as human-assisted-machine-learning.

Abstract

The X-CAV street sweeper does the job of several machines of different sizes.

To adapt to any street, the undercarriage extends to more than twice its width (from 140 to 300cm). The combination of horizontal and vertical brushes ensures the best coverage at the kerb as well as under the sweeper itself. Another innovation is an extendable vacuum arm for detailed cleaning of tight spaces, between cars, for example, or under park benches.

Most often than not, there will be areas that this sweeper can’t reach, therefore, X-Cav Street Sweeper is equipped with an extendable arm (at the left side) that works like a vacuum cleaner. The main cabin is rotatable, in this way, the driver can use the extendable arm to clean complicated, narrow areas. At the right side, user can find compartment storage to keep additional cleaning equipment. To ensure an easy access the door slides upwards using the aluminum frames around the cabin as a support
